Southern Block Party: The Introduction!

Hello!  Welcome to Southern Block Party.  This is my first block swap bee, so I started by doing a little research.  There's a wealth of information out there, and the first tip I read was that it's a great idea to have an online home, a place where all bee members can go to catch up, grab information, or get help.

So, now that that's out of the way, what exactly is a block swap?  Well, you're probably here because either Lori or I sent you, which means you at least have a passing interest in quilting.  And that's a good thing since we're about to help each other make quilts!

FLYING GEESE
A block swap usually consists of 12 members with each member assigned a month.  When it's your month you'll send a package of fabrics and instructions to your 11 new quilt-loving friends.  [So, yes...a little postage will be involved.]  Which fabrics you send is completely up to you!  This is the start of your quilt-in-the-making, so you can instruct everyone else on what type of block you're interested in as well.  Do you want your blocks to be Log Cabins, Flying Geese, or maybe a plain ol' Nine Patch?  Are you okay with bee members introducing some of their own fabrics into your block?  Be as specific as you like.  When the end of your month draws to a close, you should receive 11 quilt blocks in the mail, each made by a different member of the Southern Block Party.  And that brings me to an important reminder: When you're sending out packages of fabrics, don't forget to save some fabric for yourself!  Your block will be the 12th one, and is integral to completing your fantastic new quilt.

So, what's a gal to do during the other 11 months of the year?  Well, you'll be receiving packages from your fellow fabricworms!  Of course, each package will come complete with fabrics and instructions on how the finished block should look.  When you've completed your block, you'll send it back to its very happy owner.

That, my friends, is a quick run-down of a block swap.  Still interested?  If so, please send me an email with your name, preferred email address, physical address, and your quilt block instructions [if you already know them!].  Who gets what month will be determined by order of the emails I receive.

So, welcome!  I'm looking forward to our block swap!

Please leave any questions in the comments.
